Der Autor und sein Werk: Christian v. Wolff (1693, Breslau–1754, Halle a. d. Saale) ist einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Aufklärung. Durch seine methodisch durchgestalteten Kompen- dien der Mathematik und Physik (letztere im weitesten Sinne gefaßt), wurde er für die mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliche sowie technische Lehre von großer Bedeutung. Von der thematischen Vielfalt zeugt auch der Inhalt des vorliegenden fünfbändiges Werkes.
